In Memoriam

Death of Eric Wilkins (Chailey ringer)

We regret to announce the death (on 23 Oct 2019) of Eric Wilkins of Chailey, one of the Association’s members with over 50 years’ service. Eric rang in Lewes, Barcombe and more recently Chailey where he was a great support to the local band.

The funeral is at 2pm on Monday 18 November at St Peter's Chailey. Please come along to ring from 1.15pm. Margaret and the family would be pleased if you would stay for refreshments in the church after the service.

No flowers, donations will be welcome for the chosen charities British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research. (cheques should be made payable to ‘R A Brooks & Son Donation Account’ and sent to R A Brooks & Son, Ravenoak, Allington Road, Newick, BN8 4NB).

Death of Richard Harrison (Chichester ringer)

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Richard Harrison on 8th September 2019. He was formerly a member of the Chichester Cathedral Guild of Ringers, Sussex County Association, Essex Association, and of the College Youths.

He had not rung for several years, having been struck with osteo-arthritis and Alzheimer’s, and had been in a nursing home for a long time.

Death of Mary Collings (Dewby's Bells, Hooe)

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Esther Mary Collings (wife of Alan Collings), who died peacefully (aged 82) on 6th August after a long illness, bravely borne.

Although not a ringer herself, Mary always took an active and intelligent interest in ringing, and she and Alan formed an unbeatable team. Notable amongst their joint achievements was the establishment of the mini ring at Dewbys as the runaway success it has proved to be - a wonderful resource for the Association and local ringers. Ringers from Sussex and beyond were always made welcome Dewbys bells (Hooe).

There is to be a Service celebrating the life of Mary at St Oswald's Church, Hooe on Thursday 22nd August at 12pm, Bells to be rung from 11.30am. All are invited to the service, and to join us for a light lunch in Hooe village Hall opposite Dewbys Barn. Please advise Alan (01424 893313) if you intend to come to the parish all for refreshments.

Donations in place of flowers may be sent online to www.Demelza.org.uk or to Demelzas, Rook Lane, Sittingbourne, Kent ME9 8DZ
