Ringing Courses & Workshops

The Training and Recruitment Team works to arrange ringing courses throughout the year and to provide special Two Day Courses held annually in October, which provide in intensive training opportunities in a range of topics. We are always keen to engage with ringers to hear what courses they would like to see in the coming year, so please contact us with your ideas.

Handbell Maintenance & Repair Workshop

Apply NOW for our handbell maintenance & repair workshop on Saturday 29th February 2019. This workshop will cover the basic skills necessary to keep handbells in good order.

Programme

  • How to inspect a set of handbells.
  • How to fit a new strap and cap.
  • How to remove clappers and replace clapper pegs/ felts.
  • How to polish handbells.
  • General discussion forum.

Maximum 12 delegates, only one from any tower.

Annual Ringing Course: 1st / 2nd November 2019

Apply NOW for our annual 2-day ringing course, to be held at various towers (tbc) in Sussex.  The cost for adult members is £30 for 2 days, or £15 for the 1 day course. The cost for junior members is £5 which is refundable after the completion of the course.

To apply for a place on any course:

  1. Complete the application form for your chosen course.
  2. Get your Tower Captain to countersign the form.
  3. Return the application form and payment to David Kirkcaldy, 27 Hills Road, Steyning, BN44 3QG. Cheques made payable to SCACR
  4. If several people from your tower wish to apply, by all means post the applications in the same envelope. As places are limited, please send individual cheques in case not all are successful in obtaining a place on the course.

Moving On From Rounds (1st/2nd November 2019)

This course is designed for those people who want to progress from ringing rounds and call changes to Plain Hunting. To get the most from this course you need to be able to:

  • Ring rounds and call changes confidently
  • Hear your bell and adjust your striking accordingly
  • Ring confidently on bells with differing tenor weight and length of rope draught to your home tower

Plain Bob Doubles (1st/2nd November 2019)

UPDATE 13th October 2019: this course is fully-booked.

This course is designed for those people who want to progress from ringing Plain Hunting to learning Plain Bob Doubles on an inside bell. To get the most from this course you need to be able to:

  • Hear your bell and adjust your striking accordingly
  • Ring confidently on bells with differing tenor weight and length of rope draught to your home tower
  • Ring Plain Hunting confidently on bells other than the treble
  • Ring the treble confidently to Plain Bob Doubles and/or Grandsire Doubles

Beyond Plain Bob Minor (1st/2nd November 2019)

UPDATE 19th October 2019: 3 places available.

This course is designed for those people who want to progress from ringing plain courses of Plain Bob Minor to ring touches and other Minor methods. To get the most from this course you need to be able to:

  • Hear your bell and adjust your striking accordingly
  • Ring confidently on bells with differing tenor weight and length of rope draught to your home tower
  • Ring plain courses of Plain Bob Minor confidently

Developing Listening Skills (2nd November 2019)

This course is designed for those people who want to develop their ringing by developing the important skill of being able to confidently hear their bell.
