Event Description:

Join us for the first post-lockdown Northern District event!!  There's something for everyone:

  • 13.50 - meet at the church (the loo will be available)
  • 14.00-15.00 - short, gentle walk in the beautiful countryside around Slaugham
  • 15.00-16.00 - tea & cake in the church and churchyard, and ringing (we hope to have some handbells too)

Please arrive promptly for the walk, and bring your own mug.  If you could bring some home baking that would be much appreciated!

This event will be held according to government guidance and the updated Central Council guidance on ringing: https://cccbr.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Guidance-at-a-glance-2.0-3.pdf Please bring a facemask and hand sanitiser with you.  The church is ground floor so we can have the doors open during ringing to ensure good ventilation, and we will restrict the number of people in the ringing room.

Walk description: a circular route from and back to St Mary's Church in Slaugham. It is two and three quarter miles and will take about one hour. There are flat sections with three gentle inclines and one long gentle decline plus seven stiles. Ideally walkers will wear walking boots and we suggest long trousers would be better than shorts because some of the fields have been left for long grass to grow and that is the environment in which ticks live.

Those who don't wish to walk can amble around the churchyard, sit and chat - and even make a start on the coffee and cake (remember to leave some for the walkers!).

Many thanks to Linda Richardson for leading the walk, and to Ian Oram for running the ringing.
