Event Description:

Eastern District Monthly Practice

Join us for the June event with three towers along the Kent border

The provisional schedule is:

  • Ewhurst Green 10:00
  • Bodiam 11:15
  • Lunch
  • Northiam 14:30

We start the day at Ewhurst Green, where this 9½cwt ring of five in the Grade I listed Norman church of St James the Great, with its unusual spire.  The five bells here will give a chance to practice your Minimus methods, maybe have a go at some Doubles methods with no cover or just enjoy a go at "Weasels".

After Ewhurst Green we move on to Bodiam, where the church of St Giles on the hill above the castle is of uncertain orgin, due to modifications made by in the 19th century.  The bells, however, are of a definite date: all six are Mears and Stainbank, cast in 1961, with the tenor weighing in at 7cwt.

Lunch is by own arrangement, however the National Trust tearooms are at the bottom of the hill.

After lunch we head to Northiam, where the 11th century church of St Mary awaits, with it's 14cwt ring of 6 housed in a square tower with a tall, octagonal stone apire on top.  Four of the bells being Gillet & Johnston from 1914 and the remaing two (the 4th and 5th) being 18th century.
