We had a very successful trip to Ringmer on 16 December 2006, even
though there weren’t many of us and I had to draft some more
people in. The BBC came to film for a new series they are
showing on the internet about hobbies and activities you can try in
2007. The producer used to ring so thought it would be great
to add it to the list. ‘Dan the
Cameraman’ came for the hour’s ringing, filmed all
of us ringing and we all said our bit. We rang for the camera
really so Grandsire with a little bit of Cambridge went well.
Over the last six months or so, I’ve been trying to gather
together the Ringing Aloud group – for those ringers in their
twenties and thirties - to do some ringing with good company.
It’s proved successful in part. I have a group of
about six people who meet every other month and I feel like I have a
few more friends who understand what I mean when I moan about
‘missing my 3-4 dodge on the way up to the back’!
We need more people to join us though. It would be great if
we could get to the stage of meeting once a month and even ringing the
odd quarter, maybe even an outing. There is really no age
limit. I just said 35ish, so if you’re young at
heart, want some nice ringing with friendly people and something to eat
or drink in the pub afterwards, please come. It would be
great to have as many people as possible from all four
divisions. For more details contact me:
If you have access to a good internet connection, you will be able to
view the five minute film on bell ringing. This forms part of
the BBC Southern Counties 48 hours campaign, highlighting the varied
hobbies and interests in Sussex and Surrey.
